Documenting our journey, our protests, and the international legal struggle for justice and sovereignty.

Trafalgar Square Occupation

On the 20th of July 2018, the Chagossian community occupied Trafalgar Square for several days to raise awareness about a community on the verge of extinction. The protest was led by those who directly suffered deportation from their homeland in the 1960s and 1970s.

The elderly spent days in the square, aiming to raise public awareness of our ongoing struggle. We received many visitors who were shocked and ashamed of the actions taken by their governments. The clear aim of world leaders is for the natives to pass on, so they can claim the islands for themselves.

"We received a lot of visitors who were shocked and ashamed of their Governments."
